This is my black '97 C1500 Silverado. Bought by me in 2000 I used this as a daily driver for several years in bone stock form. It originally came with a 4.3 V-6 and a 5 speed but after lowering it and installing the 20's it just had too much attitude and too little power so I began looking for a donor truck for a major power transplant. I found what I was looking for on eBay and quickly purchased it and after driving the donor truck for a few months to make sure everything was okay with the truck I pulled the 5.7 liter engine, 4L60E trans, the 3.73:1 posi equipped rear end and computer/ wiring harness and installed it all into the black truck. The I put the V-6 and 5-speed in the donor truck and resold it. This gave me some more needed power to go along with the looks. I also swapped my stock bench seat out for a set of stock cloth buckets and console from the same donor truck and installed a factory overhead console purchased off eBay. Not happy to just have a stock V-8 I added the usual bolt ons like a set of Gibson shorty headers a Volant Cold Air Intake. I removed the stock engine driven cooling fan and replaced it with a pair of '97 Corvette electric fans bought off eBay as well I then reprogrammed the computer using a Hypertech Power Programmer. I also upgraded the 4L60E tranny with a B&M Shift Improver Kit for neck snapping shifts and I installed a dual exhaust system with FlowMaster Super 40 mufflers. I still wasn't satisfied with the exhaust though. I wanted it to be loud and obnoxious so I took the sawzall to the mufflers and welded in straight pipes, now you can hear me coming from a mile away! I then turned my attention back to the looks department and having always loved the 454-SS trucks of the early nineties I decided to go with the whole monochromatic theme by installing a smoothie front bumper with driving lights, a stock black back bumper and I painted both of them along with the chrome grill with a base coat clear coat. I then installed a red outlined bowtie to the grill, and installed a Trenz Billet Grill kit and removed all the factory moldings and emblems from the sides and the huge Chevrolet panel from the tailgate. I've also tinted the tail light lenses, the third brake light as well as the front corner markers for an even stealthier look. Future plans include dropping it even more with a flip kit for the back and shorter springs in front. I also plan to install the new GM Performance Parts HT383E crate engine and I want to eventually do a complete custom interior, add a custom hood and a set of 20X8.5 front and 22X10 rear black powdercoated wheels to complete the whole black on black on black theme. In the meantime I will just keep enjoying it and terrorizing the locals with the open exhaust!
